Enhancing the use of economic evidence in vaccine decision making

This project is funded by the Wellcome Trust and aims to enhance the use of economic evidence in vaccine decision making. This project is intended to support African countries to better prepare for the planned donor transition in the funding of country immunization programmes by strengthening the priority setting for vaccines. Specific objectives of the project are:

  • To develop quality adjusted value-sets in the study countries
  • To model the cost-effectiveness of priority vaccine decisions in the study countries and to engage country policy makers to incorporate evidence from this analysis in their decision making
  • To develop a framework for the incorporation of economic evidence in vaccine decision making in Africa

The projects focal countries are Kenya, Zambia, and Nigeria. In Kenya, KEMRI-Wellcome Trust will lead implementation, while the Universities of Zambia and Nigeria will lead implementation in the Zambia and Nigeria respectively. Beyond the three countries, AfroHTA is collaborating with the Africa CDC’s Health Economics Division to and EuroQol to support the development of QALY value sets in three additional countries, to make a total of 6 African countries.
